The national currency of Poland is Polish Zloty (zl; PLN). Euros are not accepted.
All major transport links are marked on this map.
Arriving by plane
This is the main airport located within city limits, 8 km from the city centre. Bus lines 148/175/188, and a train line connect the airport with the nearby residential districts and the city centre. For detailed information check this webpage.
Bus
The best way to get to the city centre is to take bus 175 from the airport. A trip to the Central railway station (located in the city centre) takes about 35 min and you will need to alight at stop Dw. Centralny. To get to the IBIB PAN conference centre, the meeting venue, you should alight at the bus stop Uniwersytet Medyczny, which is ~15 min from the Chopin airport Arrivals hall, depending on traffic.
This airport is typically serviced by budget airlines and is located 40 km from the centre of Warsaw. We do not recommend that participants arrive at this airport because the onward connections are not straightforward and are complicated further in the case of late-night/early morning arrivals and departures.
Bus & Train
The best way to get to the city centre is to take the "ZL" bus from the airport bus station (in front of the Arrivals hall) to Modlin train station. Bus tickets can be purchased onboard and the journey lasts ~10 min. At the train station purchase tickets from the machines or the manned booths and take the "RL" train to Warszawa Centralna. Usually the train departs from Platform (Peron) 2; however, this is not guaranteed.
Flixbus
Alternatively (for a higher price) you may wish to take a Flixbus from Modlin Airport to Warszawa Dworzec Autobusowy, Warsaw's central bus station.
Arriving by train
This is the main railway station in Warsaw. All major bus lines stop here, the nearest tram stop is 300m away; the nearest metro stop is 600m away.
This is the closest major station to the meeting venue, and both domestic and international trains stop here. Direct buses to venue: 154/172 (~20 min). It is also walkable in principle (2 km). Make sure to exit on the southern side (Al. Jerozolimskie). Note: the station is being refurbished so parts of it may be inaccessible and harder to navigate.
A smaller and more remote train station but some international trains stop here (avoiding the stations above). Trams 1/15 will take you close to the meeting venue. Alternatively take metro M1 towards Kabaty and connect to trams 7/9/25/35 at Metro Centrum (~40 min).
There are three types of public transport in Warsaw: bus, metro, and tram. You can use the same ticket for all of these.
Tickets
Purchase
Ticket machines are available at tram and metro stops (cash/card accepted) and onboard buses and trams (card only). You can also find a ticket machine outside the Chopin airport Arrivals hall. Please note: drivers do not sell tickets.
Types of tickets
20/75/90 minute, one-day, and three-day tickets are available. The tariff is available on the website. You should purchase the "normal" ticket unless you have a student ID valid in Poland, in which case you may purchase the "reduced" tickets. You must be prepared to show your ID to ticket inspectors on request.
Validating the ticket
Tickets purchased at transport stops must be validated when boarding. To do this on trams and buses, place the ticket inside one of the small yellow boxes and the expiry date and time will be printed on the back. When entering the metro your ticket will be validated when you insert it into the slot to pass through the turnstiles. Remember to collect your ticket as you pass through the turnstile.
Jakdojade app
You can also purchase tickets using the Jakdojade app. After purchase the ticket must be validated by scanning a QR code. On buses and trams these are located near the ceiling opposite the door when you board, and in metro stations they are by the accessible entrance gates at one side of the turnstiles and on the information boards half-way down the platforms.
Metro lines
There are only two metro lines in Warsaw: M1 (North-South) and M2 (East-West).
Bus schedule
You can check the live bus schedule in Jakdojade and on Google maps. Printed bus schedules are also shown in bus stations and at bus stops. The bus stations have numbers; check these to ensure you get the bus going in the correct direction.
Warsaw City Bike
To use the city bikes you must register an account with Veturilo and top it up. This will provide you with access to bikes at hundreds of stands around the city, which you can find in the dedicated app. The first 20 minutes of every bike ride are free and the next 40 minutes cost 1 PLN. Thereafter the price rises slowly every hour.
Taxi
Uber and Bolt taxis operate in Warsaw. You can also find local taxis in front of the Chopin airport Arrivals hall (be careful of the rates).
